2018 International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC)
The 2018 International Fuel Gas Code, published by the International Code Council, sets performance-based requirements for the design and installation of fuel gas systems and gas-fired appliances. Code officials, designers and contractors use it to check natural gas and LP-gas installations for compliance.
This edition updates the code to account for materials and installation practices that had become common but were not yet addressed in earlier editions.
Stainless steel piping and CSST bonding
New pipe sizing tables cover Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 stainless steel piping for the first time, and the requirements for electrical bonding of Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing are clarified to reduce the risk of arc damage from lightning and other electrical events.
Inspection and venting requirements
Piping terminations must now be visually inspected, with a cap, plug or appliance in place at the point of stub-out. The tables for venting Category I appliances are updated for proper draft, and new standards cover the assembly of plastic pipe joints to prevent leaks and failures.
