Kaiju No. 8 Manga Vol. 1-12 English Full Set by Naoya Matsumoto

Kaiju No. 8 Manga, Volumes 1-12 (English)

Giant monsters have the country under siege, and the man who cleans up after them is about to become one of the strongest weapons against them. This kaiju no. 8 manga set holds volumes 1 to 12 of Naoya Matsumoto’s series as English paperbacks.

Kafka Hibino starts on the cleanup crew. By the later volumes he is fighting kaiju himself, and the story balances those big monster battles with real emotion and a sharp sense of humor.

Kafka Hibino and the Defense Force

The series follows Kafka’s jump from scrubbing up after attacks to standing on the front line with the Defense Force. It is a modern shonen story with a hero who is older than most, which gives the comedy and the drama a slightly different flavor.

What is in the set

• Volumes 1 through 12 of Kaiju No. 8
• English editions of each book
• Loose paperbacks rather than a boxed set

Who will enjoy it

Readers who like monster fights, collectors adding a newer shonen title, and people who watched the anime and want to read the manga it came from.

Monster action with a sense of humor

Kaiju No. 8 does not take itself too seriously all the time. Kafka’s jump from cleanup worker to frontline fighter gives the series plenty of awkward and funny moments, and those sit next to some very large battles against monsters attacking the country. Readers who like their shonen with a bit of comedy will find that balance here.

Starting at volume 1 means a new reader meets Kafka before his life changes, which makes the later fights land harder. Twelve volumes is also a solid stretch of story to read before deciding whether to keep collecting.
